LA trip recap

What up people! Just got back in town from a nice lil’ trip to Los Angeles this past week. Here’s a quick recap of some fun shit that went down…

RECAP
First of all, I have a tradition with myself, that on every trip out to LA I have to produce a beat on the flight there. This tradition started the last time I went to LA on the flight with my homie Murph aka Gem City (Murph, if you’re reading this… I HAD to, lol).  I upheld this tradition on the plane this last trip to LA, making a beat with like 4 different samples in it. (I couldn’t use a MIDI keyboard on the plane due to size, so I’m forced to do everything basically with just samples.)
Landed at LAX, greeted by my nouno who picked us up (for the non-Greeks out there, ‘nouno’ means ‘godfather’ in Greek. See? You learn something new every day), and we drove to where we were staying, a DOPE ASS spot in Manhattan beach literally like a block away from the water.  (I’ll post some of the photos below…)

While in LA, I met with a lot of really dope people, and had some great meetings. Among the people I met were some members of Odd Future who we ran into while visiting the OF store in West Hollywood. That store is crazy – more skaters were in a one-block radius of that store than I’ve ever seen at one time anywhere in metro-Detroit. Also in LA, I had some great eats at Umami burger, where I’m convinced they sprinkle crack on these burgers, cuz they are TOOOOO delicious. If you ever get a chance to go there, try the Manly burger… or the Truffle burger, which I also hear is good. I’ve been there twice, and both times I left very satisfied. I didn’t really have too much time to hang out and explore LA like I wanted to because of so many meetings and stuff, but I’ll save all that for next trip. I can’t really give ya’ll too many details of who I met with, but I can say that everything was very positive and I’m very excited.  I’m especially excited for all the fans to hear my new project (mixtape/album, whatever you want to call it), “Label Me”, which is coming very soon! I actually have a big announcement regarding the project coming on Monday that I’ll post on here.
The flight back from LAX to DTW had me feeling like  Mike Posner cuz we flew Delta flight 1406 (see Mike Posner’s song “Delta 1406″). Landed and I’m still a little jet-lagged. Here are some photos from the trip……….

Shoutouts to all the fans out there. Shoutouts to the fans who’ve been waiting on something new from me for a whilllleee now. A lot has happened since “The B.U.R.N. Project”.  A lot of new songs have been recorded, I’ve done quite a few shows, and I’ve met some incredible people. I’m happy to announce that my new mixtape “Label Me” is very close to getting an official release date from me.

2012

Ohhhhhh shittttttttt!!!!!!!!
2011 is over and the year we’ve all been waiting for (the Ancient Mayans, in particular) has finally arrived! 2012 is here, BITCH
Lmao
Just want to thank everybody for a great 2011, my music career has gone places it’s never been before this year. I performed at SXSW, I performed at the Sundance Film Festival, I had a song get some mix show radio play on over 30 stations nationally, put out a great mixtape featuring a song with Royce Da 5’9″, had my “Headlines” Remix video reach over 200,000 views on YouTube, and most importantly – had a ton of fun. This is a big THANK YOU to all the fans who have been supporting me all along the way and who made 2011 what it was. Thanks.

With that being said, I’m fully confident that 2012 is going to blow 2011 out of the water. lol.
First of all, I’m gearing up to release my 8th mixtape, “Label Me” which is going to be really exciting (you can read a lil more about what you can expect from it here). Expect to hear a few singles on the radio as well! Secondly, Quarter to Infinity has got a couple tricks up our sleeve we’re really excited for in 2012. More important than those though, is the fact that this year ANYTHING can happen. Who know’s what other shows I’ll do this year, or other artists I’ll work with, etc. That’s the most exciting part. And I’m hype for it.

2012 is a NEW year! Leave all the bullshit in the past, it’s time to start fresh.
My new years resolution is to quit worrying about haters so much and just do me! lol Man, f&ck hater-ass YouTube comments! Haha

Ok I’m done. I hope everyone had a great holiday season, and I wish everyone a happy and safe New Years! Remember to have fun, but don’t drive drunk cuz that shit is just stupid and it’s not a good look. Not to mention the consequences….. smh

Be good,

Update and New Mixtape Title

What up!
Yo I’m in the blogging mood. I feel like speaking directly to my people… my fans… from the people who’ve been holding me down since day one to the people who’ve just found out about me recently. I appreciate all of you!  I’m in the blogging mood cuz I feel like I haven’t announced nothing to ya’ll in a minute. I haven’t really told you what I’ve been working on, or when you can expect to hear anything new. I got DJ’s begging me for new music from me all the time, and I have heard LOUD and CLEAR that my fans need some hot shit to bump. I had someone write on my Facebook wall the other day, “Drew – you haven’t released anything new in AGES, when are you releasing new music?”.
That question shocked me. Has it really been AGES? Is The B.U.R.N. Project OLD already? I put so much hard work into it (and all of my projects/mixtapes) that I guess I expected it to last longer. That’s crazy to me. But regardless, I didn’t take it to heart, and it’s totally understandable that people want more music. Obviously. If you’re a fan, you want music. I get it. My problem is that I care too much.

There’s no possible way that I could, in my right mind, release ANYTHING (whether it be one single song, a mixtape, or album) if I didn’t think it was dope and if I didn’t think it was ready to be heard. Wait – let me take it even further. I don’t like releasing anything if I don’t think it’s BETTER than the last music I released. I stress progression and improvement, and I’m very critical of myself. I’m sort of a perfectionist, and I don’t see this as a bad thing. That being said, I know my next mixtape is going to be crazy.

The hardest thing for me for the past few years has been balancing music and school. That’s why this upcoming winter break I’m bout to go HAM. (*Kanye voice*). Hard as a motherf&cker. After this winter break I’ll have about 85% of my next project done. I’m telling ya’ll this because I want to give you guys an idea of when you can hear some new shit from me. I’m expecting a February release for my next mixtape.

The way I feel is: this might be my last mixtape for a while. I really want to start working on putting together an album for real. Man, I was looking at my iTunes or whatever, and I’ve only got 2 songs up on there for sale. That looks stupid to me lol. That’s unofficial as fuck. Lol. Anyways, let me stop typing because I feel like I’m just venting now, haha.

Ok, I almost forgot why ya’ll clicked on this blog post. You want to know the title of my next mixtape, huh?

#LabelMe

Yup. “Label Me” is gonna be the title. I just feel like people are always trying to label me one way or another. One minute I’m a called the next Drake, some call me a pop rapper, then I’m just another white rapper, then I’m a college party rapper, some call me a lyricist, then some say I’m just a rich kid who makes beats, then some people say I’m the next up, some say I sound exactly like Lupe Fiasco, and I even heard comparisons to Childish Gambino the other day. People are tripping. That’s why it’s “Label Me”, cuz at the end of the day, no matter what you stamp on me or try to label me, I’m always going to just be me. You can’t put me in a box. You can’t say I’m one thing because I’m not. Listen to my music. I’ve got songs that can (and have) gotten played on the radio, and I’ve also got songs where I tell you about my life and that sound totally different. But I’m still me. So label me whatever you want to.

I already have crazy cover art ideas going on in my head it. We’re gonna get creative.

SHOUTOUTS to my Quarter to Infinity family and extended family: Mark Hicks, Poppa Pete, Dino Delvaille, Amy, B-Smooth, Asante, Niko, Jay Hussle, G-Rich, Joey aka Johniee, Murph, BP, Drew, Hen, Alex, Lamar, and many more…

Love ya’ll.
Shit is bout to get turned up a notch.

HeLLLOOOO!!!

What’s up people. Drew32 here. First thing’s first – thanks for all the love I’ve been getting on my “Headlines” Remix… it’s gotten over 83,000 views on YouTube so far! Freakin’ awesome. For those who people who just recently discovered me because of that video, I invite you to check out my most recent mixtape (June 2011), “The B.U.R.N. Project” which can be downloaded for free HERE.

Okay. Now on to what I actually wanted to write to you guys about… new music. Right now I’m working on a ton of new sh*t. Production-wise, it’s very different from what you’re used to from me – I’m experimenting with a lot of sampling [which is something I've steered away from in the past].  I just feel like it’s opened the door up to a totally new sound that I’ve never really dipped my feet into previously. Be on the lookout.

I’m trying to kick out a new project ASAP because I know I got anxious fans out there!  (I love ya’ll by the way). I want to release a few tracks out to you guys so you can hear what I’m working on, but my fear is that the timing is wrong. I don’t want to start releasing tracks until I’m ready with a whole new project/mixtape to drop soon. I’m not really there yet.  Still in the recording process.  I ask that you please be patient with me as I get this music together, because I know this is going to be my best yet.  I’m not trying to make music that will just get me quick money and girls – I want to create something that will last. So I leave you with this question…
Five years from now, will you remember what you did TODAY? What about yesterday?
Let’s make history.
